RAE 2001: Survey of Submission Intentions
As you are aware, the RAE Team canvassed institutions on their submission intentions for the 2001 RAE. The survey was conducted during the summer and autumn of 2000, with a closing date of 8 September 2000. Details of the survey arrangements are on the RAE website (May 2000 - Letter requesting Submission Intentions).
I am grateful to all colleagues in institutions who assembled information for the submission intentions survey. We received a very high response with over 90% of all institutions providing information. Panels reviewed the information at their most recent round of meetings in November 2000 and found it very helpful in finalising their practical preparations for the assessment process.
I am enclosing a summary of the data returned, at Unit of Assessment level. The summary compares stated intentions for 2001 with the actual pattern of submissions from 1996. The summary is provided for your information only and I would urge caution in its use. It is based on submission intentions as they stood around six months ago. Furthermore, as stated intentions are in no way binding on institutions it is possible that the actual pattern of submission will differ from that suggested by the survey.
This letter will shortly be available electronically on the RAE website under Publications.
Dr John Rogers
