2001 Research Assessment Exercise: Welsh Language Advisers
Submissions to the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise are likely to include a number of items in the Welsh language. This has certainly been the case in previous exercises.
It is essential that our assessment panels have available to them the knowledge and expertise to make a fully informed assessment of submissions. Accordingly, it is important that they are able to call on advisers who are fluent in Welsh from within their own subject areas wherever necessary. I am writing, therefore, to seek your assistance in the identification of individuals who may be invited to act as advisers.
In the 1996 RAE, Welsh speaking advisers were sought for the Units of Assessment where it was
considered they were most likely to be required. These were:
At this stage, I am seeking nominations for advisers only for those Units of Assessment. I will be discussing with Higher Education Institutions their submission intentions later this year, and at that point may need to seek further nominations for Units of Assessment not included in the above list.
I would be grateful if you would consider who might be suitable to act as advisers to the above panels, and let me have nominations, using the enclosed form, asappropriate.
Panels will decide which, if any, of the norminated individuals they require to use in light of the nominations received. The names of all those consulted as advisers will be published following the completion of the assessment process.
Please accept my thanks in anticipation of your assistance with this matter. Do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.
Dr John Rogers
