Professor Sir John Beringer


Professor Beringer was Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol until July 2005, primarily responsible for Research and Enterprise, and the faculties of Arts and of Social Sciences and Law. Before this he held the following posts: Dean of Science, Head of Department of Botany, HoD of Microbiology, and Director of the Molecular Genetics Unit.

Professor Beringer is a member of the Council for Science and Technology, Chairman of the Governing Council of the John Innes Centre, and a member of the BBSRC Estates and Equipment Committee. He has chaired the Advisory Committee on Releases to the Environment, been a member of NERC Council, and has chaired, or been a member of, a wide range of NERC and BBSRC grants panels and review teams covering the following topics: plant sciences; microbiology; biotechnology; population biology; ecology of plants, microbes and animals; and polar sciences.
